Marc Ash

Histoire Rouge, 2007

Marc Ash was born November 30, 1958 in Oran. He lives and works in Paris though travels to exhibit his works and maintain a dialogue with collectors and art professionals worldwide.

Ash graduated with a degree in Strategic Marketing and in 1978 started his professional career in London. He later worked for a Brazilian oil company and moved to Mauritania and then to countries in Asia: this move fuelled his creativity, which drew upon the imaginary territory of his childhood, when he began painting at a very young age. The desert has been one of the central themes of his work.

Delving in these two distinct worlds for some years, it was not until 1998 that he definitively hung up his suit and tie and dedicated himself fulltime to painting and rusting the metals he uses in his work. Two years later, Pia Cafié ro, a well-known Italian art collector, discovered Ash's works and gave him her unconditional support.

Soon after, in 2002, Ash worked on a project condemning violence and intolerance: Tous Ensemble (All Together), catching the attention of Posy Chisholm Feick, President of the Board of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. She joined Pia Cafiéro and gave new momentum to Ash’s career. Ash was selected to represent France at the Beijing Biennial. Tous Ensemble continues to tour the world, having been shown in Toronto, Montreal, Beirut, Madrid, New York, Miami, Mexico and Moscow.
